i was recently driving my 03 f-250 diesel on a four hour trip one way…?
while driving 70mph it just shut off on me. It didn’t make any sputtering noise or feel like it was a fuel issued just shut off. I was able to get it running long enough to pull to a gas station and notice my negative battery cable had rubbed away the rubber around it and had exposed wire on a metal tube that ran to my turbo. i was able to move the cable and put tape on it cover it and made it home. Then the next morning i went to start the truck and it wouldn’t start it kept turning over like it wasn’t getting fuel and i could here some clicking noise in the engine just that it sounded like it was coming for the passenger side of the engine. Does anyone know what this could be?
I have an 01 F350 7.3…is this a 7.3 or 6.0?
Sometimes if fuse 30 (not sure if its under the hoood or under the steering wheel…its for the PCM) blown it will allow the engine to turn over but not start. Is the tachomemter jumping when you try to start? If it doesn’t then you need to check that fuse or replace the cam position sensor. I suggest checking all fuses while you’re at it. The clicking you are hearing is more than likely the starter sylenoid on the passenger side front fender….just behind the battery. As long as the truck is turning over it is operating correctly. Or if you still question it, you can turn the key over to the start position….using a screwdriver…cross out the post on the sylenoid. It will spark do you’ll probably jump and have to do it again.
A diesel will start and run with a failing turbo…ask me how I know.
